Team India member Krishnamachari Srikkanth: Veteran bowler Mohammed Shami, in the opinion of former India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth, should have been included for the country’s 15-man T20 World Cup team. According to him, Mohammed Shami would have been the choice over Harshal Patel if he had been the selection.
Monday saw the selection of the India T20 World Cup team. This saw the return of injured fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel. Bhuvneshwar and Arshdeep were included to the list of fast bowlers along with Bumrah and Harshal. Mohammed Shami was held in reserve at the same time.
On the “Follow the Blues” programme of “Star Sports,” previous selection committee chairman Srikkanth commented, “If I were the current head of the selection committee, Mohammed Shami would surely be on the team.” Australia will host our World Cup games. Shami is capable of gaining speed and bouncing. He can get swing and take early wickets. I would have retained Shami on the team in this scenario rather than Harshal Patel. Harshal Patel is an excellent bowler, without a question, but given the conditions, Mohammed Shami would have come out on top.
Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, and Arshdeep Singh make up Team India at the T20 World Cup.
Mohammed Shami, Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi, and Deepak Chahar all on standby.
