In South Africa, a new Covid-19 Omicron sub-variant has been discovered.

According to Foster Mohale, a spokeswoman for the health department, this sub-variant was initially discovered in a sample from Gauteng in July, and as of Thursday, it had not been found in any more locations.

“It is interesting but not a problem. As a result, it has not had any effect and has not been as severe as the dominant sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5 “Added Mohale.

In South Africa, BA.4 and BA.5 remained the most prevalent sub-variants, but the Spokesperson told Xinhua that because of increased levels of immunity, they were less harmful. Not to panic, the agency urged the populace.

The Health department said that the epidemic was still ongoing despite South Africa having withdrawn all significant Covid-19 lockdown limitations as new cases continued to decline.

Mohale urged individuals who had not yet had their vaccinations to do so in order to protect themselves. In South Africa, more than 50% of people have had a vaccination.
