IND Vs OFF: Cricket Australia has announced the team for the three-match T20 series against India this month. Opener David Warner has been rested from the India tour. Star batsman Tim David has been entered in Australia’s team. Along with this, Australia has also announced the team for the T20 World Cup to be held in October.
Australia has announced a team of 15 members for India tour and World Cup. However, David Warner has got a place in the World Cup squad. Cameron Green has been selected in place of David Warner for the India tour.
Tim David has got a place in the Australian team for the first time. David played 14 T20 Internationals for Singapore in 2019 and 2020 in which he averaged 46.5. However, according to the rules of the International Cricket Council, he can play for Australia with immediate effect.
Tim David got the place because
David has carved a niche for himself in the shortest format of cricket. He plays in T20 leagues around the world. David’s parents are Australian but he was born in Singapore. His parents settled in Perth when he was two years old. In the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians bought David earlier this year for Rs 8.25 crore.
“Tim David has carved a special place for himself by performing well in leagues around the world and that is why he has been included in the team,” Australian selection committee chairman George Bailey said in a statement.
The 15-man team led by Aaron Finch will tour India later this month to play a three-match T20I series from September 20. There has been only one change in the Australian team that won the World Cup last year and David has been brought in in place of Mitchell Swepson.
Australian team for India tour: Aaron Finch (capt), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Josh Hazlewood, Jos Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Kane Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, Cameron Green, Adam Zampa.
